Import from Facebook

Bring in the address-book contacts you uploaded to Facebook. These are different from your Facebook friends list.

  1. 1

    Ask Facebook for your download

Sign in and choose Download or transfer information (or Export your information). Select your Facebook profile, choose Some of your information, and look for Contacts or Uploaded contacts. Choose download to your device, All time and JSON, then create your files. If contacts are not listed separately, request all your information.

    Open Facebook's download page

Facebook notifies you when the download is ready. Large archives can take several days.

Your reminder choice is saved, but email reminders are not sending yet.

  2. 2

    Find the right file

Download your file when the network says it is ready. Open the zip by double-clicking it on a Mac, or right-clicking and choosing Extract all on Windows.

Search the extracted folders for your_address_books.json, often inside about_you. Folder names can vary between downloads.

Use the uploaded address-book file, not friends.json: a friends list usually has names but no phone numbers or emails. If you never uploaded contacts, this file may be empty or missing.

You can also import your_friends.json (usually in connections → friends). It has your friends' names and the date you became friends, but no phone numbers or emails. We link each friend to an existing contact only when exactly one contact has that name; anything uncertain goes to Review possible matches.

    your_address_books.json or your_friends.json

    Import the file

You'll see a preview first. Nothing is saved until you confirm.
